Learning to Love Leah

The Leibster Award

I’m sure some of you will have heard of it, but if you haven’t, the Leibster Award is a way of bloggers nominating each other, in a bid to get to know other new bloggers, which is so great! The sea of bloggers is vast and this makes it so much easier, and its interesting getting to learn something new about the person behind the blog!

Once nominated, you must answer questions that the person who has nominated you suggests, and continue the process (rules below). Thank you to Emily via her blog The Little Chronicles for nominating me! Here are the questions she asked me:

Why did you start blogging in the first place?

I started my blog as a way to express myself. I have been so focused on school for the past years of my life that I really did not have any hobbies, so starting my blog and Instagram was a big leap of faith for me. I wanted to be able to share my creativity and love of all things beauty, fashion and travel. I am really so blessed by the support that I’ve gotten along the way!

What is your mission for your blog?

I am still deciding on which direction to take my blog (beauty? fashion? travel? a mix of all?) but I hope to be able to brighten everyone’s days with my posts. I want to spread positivity and share what I love with others!

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration for my blog has to be other growing bloggers! It is such a great community and everyone is so supportive of each other. If I ever feel in a rut, I just start searching for new bloggers and always find such great inspiration for new posts!

Where do you see your blog in the future?

I hope to have more time to devote to my blog and be able to post multiple times a week. I would LOVE to work with brands to share products that I sincerely enjoy. I want to redesign my website and invest in more lenses for my camera to provide the best content possible.

If you were given a free ticket to any place right now, where would you travel and why?

I would have to pick somewhere warm and tropical like Hawaii. I think it would be so relaxing to lay by the ocean when it still isn’t too hot outside! Plus, there is so much wildlife to explore on the islands. I would love to go to Kauai!

What was the last blog post you read about, and who was it by?

I am so obsessed with Amber Fillerup’s blog BarefootBlonde. Her latest post was about the winners of her giveaway meeting up with her in NYC. Her pictures are always gorgeous and of the best quality. I aspire for my blog to be like hers one day!

If you had to give one, what would you best skincare/beauty tip be?

Be nice to your skin!! Take your makeup off every night, do not tug, pull or pick at your skin, and use gentle products that will help clarify and cleanse your face.

What is your most annoying habit?

I get overwhelmed very easily which makes it difficult for me to get things done. This is very frustrating as I typically have a very full “to-do” list for each day but I am working on doing better!

What is at the top of your current “me” shopping wishlist and why?

The newest Tarte blush palette! I have been so obsessed with the blush palette from Too Faced that I cannot wait to buy another one. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on it soon!!

What would you say your mantra/moto for life is?

Let It Be. I’ve loved this Beatles’ song for years and the message of letting go things that don’t matter. It is a great reminder to not sweat the small stuff.

What is the last song that was played on your iPod?

This is a tough one since I haven’t used my iPod in years but my favorite song currently has to be “No” by Meghan Trainor. Is it just me or does it remind you of 90’s Britney Spears? The beat is so catchy and I love to jam to it on my way to school in the morning. It’s the perfect empowering song for a Monday morning!

Now, here are my questions for you!!

  1. How did you choose the name for your blog?
  2. Who is your biggest encourager?
  3. What is the best quality about yourself?
  4. What quote inspires you the most?
  5. What has been your best vacation?
  6. What is your favorite snack?
  7. Do you plan on taking another direction with your blog in the future?
  8. What is your favorite makeup/beauty product?
  9. Who are some other bloggers that you love?
  10. What is something you can’t live without?
  11. What is a goal you have set for yourself this year?

Bloggers I nominate are:

Julia from Julia and Jax

Emma from Call it Chic

Make Life Pretty

Sarah from Sarah Tahami

Sammy from Sammy Hearts This

Jen & Lex from Jen and Lex

Mollie from Mollie’s Beauty Bible

Nataly from Beautifully Elegant

Claire from Claire N Connell

Nikki from NY In The City

Shannon from The Birdy Beak

So girls, the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger that nominated you through your blog or social media
  2. Answer the questions by the blog that nominated you
  3. Nominate 5-11 other bloggers (with under 1,000 followers on instagram)
  4. Create 11 new questions for the nominees to answer
  5. Notify all nominees via social media

I picked each blog because I felt like all of you ladies were really putting in great time and effort into your posts and needed to be recognized! I cannot wait to read all of your blogs answering the questions I have for you!

Travel Beauty Favorites!

products i love march 2016 edit

I have recently been traveling nonstop which means I have been living out of a small suitcase and an even smaller makeup bag! Narrowing down your makeup collection is always a challenge but these are my all-star items that have made my life so much easier while being on the go!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Soft Spoken – This liquid lipstick came in my March Ipsy bag which I just reviewed in my last blog which you can check out here. I love this rosey mauve color for a darker “my lips but better” color. It is perfect for every day as it lasts all day long without wearing off. It even lasted through all 3 meals! I have worn it everyday that I put on lipstick and I personally think it has complemented every outfit that I’ve worn very nicely!

Too Faced Love Flush Blush Palette – I have been dying to get my hands on a blush palette for months now so when I saw this beauty was for sale at Ulta I immediately added it to my cart! I plan on doing a whole blog devoted to this palette even though it was limited edition because all of the shades are permanently sold in full size packaging. While traveling I used them both as blushes and eyeshadows so they are extremely versatile and long lasting. Expect my review to be up within the month!

Almay Smart Shade Skin Tone Matching Makeup – I bought this CC cream on a whim because I was in desperate need of a foundation that wasn’t too orange for my skin tone. However, I fully intended on returning it once I could go out and buy the IT Cosmetics CC cream. Well, can you imagine my surprise when I ended up liking the Almay CC cream more than IT Cosmetics?! I have been so impressed with this foundation! It lasts all day, doesn’t stick to any dry patch, mixes well with moisturizer and has SPF. It comes out white and as you blend it in to your skin it changes to match your skin color. I have the shade light and it seems to match me very well. I get light coverage blending it in with my fingers and medium coverage if I use a beauty blender, which is what I do most days. It is now my go to foundation and I definitely recommend trying it if you are looking for a good CC cream!

Colourpop highlighter in Lunch Money – This highlighter was one of the first items I bought from Colourpop and is still one of my most used products. It gives the most beautiful luminous golden glow to this skin without being too harsh for lighter makeup days. I apply it with my ring finger to the tops of my cheekbones, tip of my nose and cupids bow. Since this highlighter is cream based, I do not apply powder over top of it because I feel as if it takes away the extra sheen, which is my favorite part!

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water –  I have very sensitive skin and soaping up dry makeup remover wipes to take off my makeup was making my skin red, irritated and dry. I have heard many beauty gurus on YouTube rave about this particular micellar water so I decided to give it a try. I don’t know what is in this water that makes it so magical but it truly is amazing! You get so much product for $9.00 and I no longer have problems removing my eye makeup! It is gentle on my skin, doesn’t dry me out and never burns my eyes. I really wished that I had bought this product sooner. If you also dread taking off your makeup every night like I did please try this out!!

Wet N Wild Setting Spray – Still being pretty new into using makeup, I have never used a makeup setting spray. I only recently decided to buy this one because I noticed my foundation looking cakey. So far, I have really been loving setting my makeup! I spritz it all over my face (BEFORE MASCARA!! – trust me, if your mascara is not waterproof you will be left with a black, watery mess) about 7 to 9 times and then let it dry. It’s really that simple! I have noticed that more of my powder lasts until the end of the day and the added moisture is always a bonus.

Formula X nail polish in Revved Up – I received this nail polish in an Ipsy bag in December and fell in love with the formula. I work at a nursing home and this polish still lasts about a week on me. Plus, you can’t beat a good rose gold metallic color. Once this sample runs out I will definitely be purchasing the full size!

March Ipsy Glam Bag Review

march ipsy bag came edit

I am FINALLY back to blogging. This month has been crazy with traveling, school, family and work but everything is slowly winding down. I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate my return with this month’s Ipsy review as it was one of my most popular blogs and I get so excited to share what I got in my bag! This month Ipsy released three different bags and I received the one that is mint green. I am billed $10 on the 1st of every month and typically receive my bag by the 15th of the month. Below is my review of the 5 products I received!

  • I have linked the websites of the companies and any other products I have talked about in this blog! They are linked through the red “here”. Just click on it and it will take you to the site! 🙂

Living Proof – Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

IMG_1554

When I saw this product was in my bag I was a bit disappointed as I use Ipsy for new makeup products. However, this dry shampoo really surprised me! Unlike most dry shampoos it actually seemed to remove some of the oil from my hair and add a bit of volume. It really did make a difference on my second day hair which I can’t say for any other dry shampoos so this one ended up being a great product!

Full Size: $22 for 4 ounces

Deluxe Sample: $9.90 for 1.8 ounces

Me Me Me – Loose Powder Brush

IMG_1555

I am a big fan of trying out new makeup brushes and expanding my collection. I just recently started receiving brushes in my bag so I was excited to get this one. It wasn’t anything special, just a regular powder brush. I would compare it to the e.l.f. mineral powder brush which is only $3 and is available at most drugstores.

Full Size: £14 converted to $19.88

Global Beauty Care – Dead Sea Wash Off Mask

IMG_1556

My boyfriend and I had a lot of fun doing this mask together! We both have very sensitive skin but neither of us had any bad reactions (burning, redness, dryness, ect.). It was quite relaxing but I didn’t noticed any difference in my skin after the few uses that I got out of this packet.

Full Size: $9.99 for 5 ounces

Sample Size: $1.99 for 1 ounce

TEMPTU – Warm Glow Bronzer

IMG_1559

This product is made to be used in an airbrushing system for a more flawless makeup application. But, you can also apply this with a brush or beauty blender

Blended out – it left a shimmer which is difficult to see in this picture

I was surprised when I saw that I was going to be getting a bronzer in this month’s bag. I am very pale and most bronzers just look orange on me so I tend to stay away from them. This one is no exception. However, I think it would be good to mix into a foundation that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone to add a bit of luminosity to your face. If I ever find a foundation that is too light I will be using this!

Full size: $27.50 for 1 fluid ounce

Sample Size: $6.88 for 0.25 fluid ounces

NYX Cosmetics – Liquid Suede Creme Lipstick

IMG_1560 IMG_1565

With just one layer of product, this is the color that you get on your lips – so beautiful!

IMG_1595

This is the brown color that I got when I layered the lipstick. It is a really pretty color if you like brown lips but it was a totally unexpected color change from the pink!

I’m already a huge fan of NYX, as I’m sure most other makeup lovers are, so this was the item I was most excited about. I received the shade Soft Spoken which is a beautiful mauve rose when applied in one coat and dries pretty matte within 10 minutes (also it doesn’t transfer unless you intentionally rub your lips!). When I tried to layer the color it began to look more brown and did not dry at all. I wish you could layer the color more easily but I have still been using this lip color on the daily.

Full Size: $7

Check out NYX’s Liquid Suede Lipsticks here

Overall, I am happily surprised by this month’s bag. I didn’t think I would like many of these products when I first tried them but after using them for a couple of weeks I find myself reaching for all of the items quite frequently except for the bronzer.

Total price I paid for the bag: $10

Total value of the bag: $45.65

If you want to sign up for a monthly subscription with Ipsy, please use my referral link here and we both get points toward an extra product in our bags 🙂
