June Ipsy Glam Bag Review

June Ipsy bag 2016

Another month and another Ipsy bag! I have to be honest I do not like the design of the bag this month. I love the purple zipper but that’s about it. However, what matters is on the inside, right? Lets get into the great and the not so great items I got this month!

Hey Honey 27Seven: Day and Night Revitalizing Cream

Okay you guys. When I got this product I was a bit disappointed because I subscribed to Ipsy for new makeup products. However, after using this cream for the first time I immediately ate my words… I am SO happy I received this little lotion sample! Not only does it smell just like honey ( which I love over the chemically smell of other lotions) but it keeps my skin feeling hydrated ALL day long! It isn’t too thick for the summer and lays nicely under makeup. I do sweat a lot in the summer (it has been in the 90’s every day here recently!) but have never had any problems with it beading off my face. I will definitely be repurchasing this cream and I cannot wait to check out more from this brand! If anyone has any suggestions please leave them in the comments below!

Full sized: $38 for 1.7 fluid ounces

Deluxe Sample: $11.18 for 0.5 fluid ounces (This pays for the whole bag right here!!)

Check out Hey Honey here

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fireball

UD fireball

See the pink/orange duo chrome? So beautiful!

I am very happy I got this eyeshadow in this month’s bag! I wish the sample was larger (seriously, this is the smallest shadow sample I think I’ve ever received) but I can’t complain too much. Overall, I love the formula and the peachy/pink duo chrome that lasted all day long. I love using this shadow just above my crease as the pink peeks out just slightly adding a fun dimension to any look!

Full sized: $19 for 1.5 grams

Sample sized: $2.53 for 0.2 grams (This is seriously disappointing in my opinion. Urban Decay is a large company and they could afford to offer a better sized sample.)

Check out Urban Decay here

Seraphine Botanicals Happy Hibiscus Blush

seraphine botanicals blush

P.S. The nail polish I’m wearing is from Color Club!

I am a blush junkie so this one was a welcome addition to my collection. I like that it isn’t a typical bright summer blush but more subdued. The website states that the blush can appear as a soft suede to a dusky rose on different skin tones. It pulled more suede (orangey-brown) on me which I really loved. For all of you wondering, this blush is also vegan!

Full sized: $18 for 2 grams (I couldn’t believe it but this blush was full sized!! Take note Urban Decay, this is great customer service!!)

Check out Seraphine Botanicals here

Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray

Why has Ipsy been sending me so many hair products recently!? My hair is pin straight and this beach spray did absolutely nothing for me. I put it in my hair when it was damp and then left it in a bun to dry and within a hour of letting it down my hair was completely straight. If your hair has natural body and wave to it, this product may work for you but for all your ladies with straight hair, save your money!

*Side note – This beach spray does have a nice floral scent (not beachy like other salt sprays) and is very affordable! It may be worth trying if you like these types of texturing products.

Full sized: $8.99 for 4.2 fluid ounces

Sample size: $3.21 for 1.5 fluid ounces (Still a better value than the Urban Decay Eyeshadow… can you tell that is still bothering me? LOL!)

Check out Marc Anthony’s products at Ulta here

Formula X Nail polish in Wingwoman

After a week of wear! Rudy is photobombing in the background! 😛

Ever since receiving a Formula X nail polish in a previous Ipsy bag, I’ve been obsessed with their formula. This gorgeous red is no different. It applies easily, the color was opaque in one coat and it lasted me about a week before I had to repaint my nails. Definitely another great product!

Full sized: $10.50 for 0.4 fluid ounces

Sample size: $3.56 for 4 mL

Check out Formula X at Sephora here

Total price I paid for the bag: $10

Total value of the bag this month: $38.48 –> This is the lowest value of products that I’ve ever gotten in my Ipsy bag!

Even though this bag’s design was a dud for me, I still loved most of the products that were picked for me. I’m still waiting on a perfect month where all five are gems… Maybe soon? If you want to sign up for a monthly subscription with Ipsy, please use my referral link here and we both get points toward an extra product in our bags 🙂

Summer Trends: Pop poms and Tassels

I don’t know about you but my Instagram feed has recently been filled with colorful blouses dotted in pom poms and tassels. I am SO in love with this trend! The more color the better in my opinion but there are also many great options that are more subdued. Below I have linked many of my favorite pieces (tops, bottoms, accessories and shoes!) that I absolutely love and I think you will too! If you know of any other great places to find these trendy summer items, please let us all know in the comments below!

She In

This website has so many affordable (like under $20!!!) and trendy options! I found this store from another blogger’s Instagram and immediately placed my first order. They update their stock daily so there is always something new and exciting! Below I have linked my favorite pompom and tassel studded pieces they have available (as of right now!). Just click the green “here” and you will be taken right to the site! Be careful not to spend all your money on the great deals! 😉

This boutique is a bit pricey but I had to include some of their pieces! Boutiques have been the place that I have always thought of when I heard the words pompoms and tassels for years. So, it only seemed right to look to the professionals for this trend! Their clothing is so unique and unlike anything that you’ll see anywhere else; which is why I assume they charge more. However, I do love this store and definitely think it is worth the splurge for these items!

Stay Fierce Boutique Review

For those of you that have been asking about the beautiful dress that I wore at The Biltmore, I finally have this blog post for you!! I bought this dress at Stay Fierce Boutique which has the most gorgeous dresses and rompers for everyday and special occasion wear (For GREAT prices!! $20 – $35!!). In these pictures I am wearing the Oceanista Maxi Dress but I will also link similar ones below if you are interested!

I personally styled this dress pretty simply, with only a delicate bracelet and necklace with brown and gold sandals since I knew we’d be outside most of the day. However, I also think it would look gorgeous with a statement necklace and wedges to dress it up! This dress plunges down pretty low in the front and back so I opted to wear nipple covers so I did not have any bra lines showing. However, a cute bralette would also look great with this dress! (I have a navy one that I plan on pairing with this dress soon for a night out!)

I have a coupon code if any of you are interested in placing an order that will give you 15% off your whole purchase!! Just use the code LOVELEAH 🙂 Enjoy all the pictures below, including more of The Biltmore!

Love these shoes from Target! They are cute and comfortable for a day of walking.IMG_2540

Styling A Summer Dress From Target

leah in target dressI recently bought this dress at Target and was inspired to write a blog showing how I would style it. Fit and flare dresses are incredibly versatile and perfect for warmer weather. I personally paired mine with a bralette but a strapless bra would work as well if you don’t want any extra straps showing. I challenged myself in putting both of these outfits together by only shopping at Target, so everything in this look book is affordable! I hope you enjoy the pieces I put together!

You can find this dress in Target stores and also here
Women's Floppy Hat with Tassels Trim Tan - Merona™

Women's Venice and Violet™ by Dogeared Heart Charm Y Necklace Plated in 14K Gold - Gold (16"+ 2")Women's Edyth Gladiator Sandals - Merona™

I am definitely more of a comfy girl when it comes to fashion so this outfit is my favorite of the two. I am so obsessed with this floppy hat! It would look adorable with braided pigtails (pancaked for added volume, of course!). I added this dainty necklace since the neckline is so high on the dress that anything too long would look out of place. A small choker necklace would look adorable as well! The gladiator sandals add a bit of pizzazz and can be re-worn over and over throughout the spring and summer. I love the gold zipper detailing! This would be the prettiest outfit to wear all summer long!

Check out the products I mentioned!

Women's Fashion Necklace with Simulated Pearls - Silver/White (19.5")Women's Meredith Espadrille Sandals - Merona™ - TanWomen's Structured Crossbody With Detachable Shoulder Strap - BEIGE NUDE

To spice this dress up, I focused on a chunky statement necklace that would compliment the high neckline. I love pairing pears and floral’s, it adds such a girly touch to any outfit! I added this small nude crossbody which would be great for holding all of your essentials for a night out or a special event. I chose the wedges for some added height and because they were just too cute not to include in this look book! I am already quite tall so I do not wear heels very often but even I would love to have these shoes! It’s also great for a woman that feels more comfortable in heels than flats!

Travel Beauty Favorites!

products i love march 2016 edit

I have recently been traveling nonstop which means I have been living out of a small suitcase and an even smaller makeup bag! Narrowing down your makeup collection is always a challenge but these are my all-star items that have made my life so much easier while being on the go!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Soft Spoken – This liquid lipstick came in my March Ipsy bag which I just reviewed in my last blog which you can check out here. I love this rosey mauve color for a darker “my lips but better” color. It is perfect for every day as it lasts all day long without wearing off. It even lasted through all 3 meals! I have worn it everyday that I put on lipstick and I personally think it has complemented every outfit that I’ve worn very nicely!

Check out NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks here

Too Faced Love Flush Blush Palette – I have been dying to get my hands on a blush palette for months now so when I saw this beauty was for sale at Ulta I immediately added it to my cart! I plan on doing a whole blog devoted to this palette even though it was limited edition because all of the shades are permanently sold in full size packaging. While traveling I used them both as blushes and eyeshadows so they are extremely versatile and long lasting. Expect my review to be up within the month!

Check out all of Too Faced Love Flush Blushes here

Almay Smart Shade Skin Tone Matching Makeup – I bought this CC cream on a whim because I was in desperate need of a foundation that wasn’t too orange for my skin tone. However, I fully intended on returning it once I could go out and buy the IT Cosmetics CC cream. Well, can you imagine my surprise when I ended up liking the Almay CC cream more than IT Cosmetics?! I have been so impressed with this foundation! It lasts all day, doesn’t stick to any dry patch, mixes well with moisturizer and has SPF. It comes out white and as you blend it in to your skin it changes to match your skin color. I have the shade light and it seems to match me very well. I get light coverage blending it in with my fingers and medium coverage if I use a beauty blender, which is what I do most days. It is now my go to foundation and I definitely recommend trying it if you are looking for a good CC cream!

Check out this Almay CC cream here

Colourpop highlighter in Lunch Money – This highlighter was one of the first items I bought from Colourpop and is still one of my most used products. It gives the most beautiful luminous golden glow to this skin without being too harsh for lighter makeup days. I apply it with my ring finger to the tops of my cheekbones, tip of my nose and cupids bow. Since this highlighter is cream based, I do not apply powder over top of it because I feel as if it takes away the extra sheen, which is my favorite part!

Check out Lunch Money here

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water –  I have very sensitive skin and soaping up dry makeup remover wipes to take off my makeup was making my skin red, irritated and dry. I have heard many beauty gurus on YouTube rave about this particular micellar water so I decided to give it a try. I don’t know what is in this water that makes it so magical but it truly is amazing! You get so much product for $9.00 and I no longer have problems removing my eye makeup! It is gentle on my skin, doesn’t dry me out and never burns my eyes. I really wished that I had bought this product sooner. If you also dread taking off your makeup every night like I did please try this out!!

Check out Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water here

Wet N Wild Setting Spray – Still being pretty new into using makeup, I have never used a makeup setting spray. I only recently decided to buy this one because I noticed my foundation looking cakey. So far, I have really been loving setting my makeup! I spritz it all over my face (BEFORE MASCARA!! – trust me, if your mascara is not waterproof you will be left with a black, watery mess) about 7 to 9 times and then let it dry. It’s really that simple! I have noticed that more of my powder lasts until the end of the day and the added moisture is always a bonus.

Check out this Setting Spray here

Formula X nail polish in Revved Up – I received this nail polish in an Ipsy bag in December and fell in love with the formula. I work at a nursing home and this polish still lasts about a week on me. Plus, you can’t beat a good rose gold metallic color. Once this sample runs out I will definitely be purchasing the full size!

March Ipsy Glam Bag Review

march ipsy bag came edit

I am FINALLY back to blogging. This month has been crazy with traveling, school, family and work but everything is slowly winding down. I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate my return with this month’s Ipsy review as it was one of my most popular blogs and I get so excited to share what I got in my bag! This month Ipsy released three different bags and I received the one that is mint green. I am billed $10 on the 1st of every month and typically receive my bag by the 15th of the month. Below is my review of the 5 products I received!

  • I have linked the websites of the companies and any other products I have talked about in this blog! They are linked through the red “here”. Just click on it and it will take you to the site! 🙂

Living Proof – Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

When I saw this product was in my bag I was a bit disappointed as I use Ipsy for new makeup products. However, this dry shampoo really surprised me! Unlike most dry shampoos it actually seemed to remove some of the oil from my hair and add a bit of volume. It really did make a difference on my second day hair which I can’t say for any other dry shampoos so this one ended up being a great product!

Full Size: $22 for 4 ounces

Deluxe Sample: $9.90 for 1.8 ounces

Check out this dry shampoo from Living Proof here

Me Me Me – Loose Powder Brush

I am a big fan of trying out new makeup brushes and expanding my collection. I just recently started receiving brushes in my bag so I was excited to get this one. It wasn’t anything special, just a regular powder brush. I would compare it to the e.l.f. mineral powder brush which is only $3 and is available at most drugstores.

Full Size: £14 converted to $19.88

Check out the Me Me Me powder brush here

Global Beauty Care – Dead Sea Wash Off Mask

My boyfriend and I had a lot of fun doing this mask together! We both have very sensitive skin but neither of us had any bad reactions (burning, redness, dryness, ect.). It was quite relaxing but I didn’t noticed any difference in my skin after the few uses that I got out of this packet.

Full Size: $9.99 for 5 ounces

Sample Size: $1.99 for 1 ounce

Check out Global Beauty Care’s Dead Sea Mask here

TEMPTU – Warm Glow Bronzer

This product is made to be used in an airbrushing system for a more flawless makeup application. But, you can also apply this with a brush or beauty blender

Blended out – it left a shimmer which is difficult to see in this picture

I was surprised when I saw that I was going to be getting a bronzer in this month’s bag. I am very pale and most bronzers just look orange on me so I tend to stay away from them. This one is no exception. However, I think it would be good to mix into a foundation that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone to add a bit of luminosity to your face. If I ever find a foundation that is too light I will be using this!

Full size: $27.50 for 1 fluid ounce

Sample Size: $6.88 for 0.25 fluid ounces

Check out TEMPTU bronzers here

NYX Cosmetics – Liquid Suede Creme Lipstick

IMG_1560 IMG_1565

With just one layer of product, this is the color that you get on your lips – so beautiful!

This is the brown color that I got when I layered the lipstick. It is a really pretty color if you like brown lips but it was a totally unexpected color change from the pink!

I’m already a huge fan of NYX, as I’m sure most other makeup lovers are, so this was the item I was most excited about. I received the shade Soft Spoken which is a beautiful mauve rose when applied in one coat and dries pretty matte within 10 minutes (also it doesn’t transfer unless you intentionally rub your lips!). When I tried to layer the color it began to look more brown and did not dry at all. I wish you could layer the color more easily but I have still been using this lip color on the daily.

Full Size: $7

Check out NYX’s Liquid Suede Lipsticks here

Overall, I am happily surprised by this month’s bag. I didn’t think I would like many of these products when I first tried them but after using them for a couple of weeks I find myself reaching for all of the items quite frequently except for the bronzer.

Total price I paid for the bag: $10

Total value of the bag: $45.65

Morphe Brushes Review (35O, 35P and 35B)

morphe sun edit

There has been so much hype recently about the Morphe 35O palette and Morphe shadows in general that I decided to make my first purchase and boy am I happy I did! Shipping didn’t take too long (about a week and a half) and everything was tightly wrapped in bubble wrap when it arrived. I have never seen a cracked Morphe shadow and I’m guessing that is why! I decided to order the 35O, 35P and 35B palettes for a bit of variety. All shadows are creamy, pigmented, easy to blend and long lasting (with one exception in the 35P which I mention below!). The only down side is the size of the palettes as they would be inconvenient to travel with but this isn’t a concern of mine. Below I have inserted a picture of each palette with stars next to each of my favorite shades that I feel are unique or that I use frequently. All of the matte and shimmer shades are fantastic but I didn’t want to star every shadow so I narrowed it down to a select few. I have also provided swatches of each row in daylight (left) and flash (right) so you would be able to see them on my skin. They are all one swipe swatches so the pigmentation is pretty impressive!

Link to the MorpheBrushes website here

35P favorites
35P favorites are indicated by the black stars. The shadow with the white star is the only color in all of the palettes that I was disappointed with. It felt rough and gritty and had a patchy application. HOWEVER, it was pigmented and the swatch looks nice. I need to play with this shadow more but I just wanted to make a note of the difference!

35B favorites are indicated by the black stars. Not as many standouts in this palette for me but that is because the colors are not ones I will be reaching for every day. Nonetheless, all of the shadows swatched beautifully and the pigmentation is amazing!

I definitely recommend these eyeshadows! They are hands down the nicest ones in my collection and I’ve been able to create such a variety of looks! The 35P ended up being my favorite palette with the 35O as a close second. Please let me know either by commenting on this blog or my instagram if you found this review helpful, if you have any Morphe products or if you plan on buying any! 🙂

February Ipsy Glam Bag Review

feb ipsy bag

This is my 4th month of receiving my Ipsy glam bag and I am definitely loving this one! The bag itself has a fun graphic design on the front (that Michelle Phan helped design!). I am billed $10 on the 1st of every month and typically receive my bag by the 15th. Below is my review of the 5 products I received!

  • I have linked the websites of the companies and any other products I have talked about in this blog! They are linked through the green “here”. Just click on it and it will take you to the site! 🙂

Luxie Beauty – Small Tapered Blending Eye Brush 231 ($12)

This blending brush is AMAZING!!! I have yet to invest in high quality makeup brushes and now I know why they are so different. The bristles are extremely soft, it blends like a dream and most importantly (for me) it will apply Colourpop shadows! I love Colourpop’s eye shadows but not being able to apply them with most brushes can be very frustrating. This one picks up the shadows and applies them like a dream. I am so happy with this brush and I cannot wait to play around with my Colourpop shadows more!!

Check out Luxie Beauty here

Check out Colourpop here

theBalm Cosmetics – Mary-Lou Manizer  (Full size $24)

As an avid YouTube makeup tutorial watcher, I have heard just about every guru rave about this highlighter. While I do prefer a more dramatic highlight, this one is just perfect for subtle makeup days or for someone who wants a minimal glow. It honestly makes you look like you are glowing from within which is nice, especially if you didn’t get much sleep the night before!

Check out theBalm here

Natural light

Paula Dorf – Baby Eyes Enhancer (Full size $20)

This eyeliner is your typical waterline eye brightening color. I have nothing bad to say about this product but it is practically identical to the Rimmel ScandalEyes liner in Nude which is less than $5!! I would suggesting picking up that nude liner at your local drugstore instead 😉

Check out Paula Dorf here

Rimmel ScandalEyes in Nude here

UPDATE: I swatched these two eyeliners side-by-side and noticed that the Rimmel one is a bit more yellow toned while the Paula Dorf one is more of a salmon color. HOWEVER, when I tried to remove them with a makeup wipe, the Paula Dorf eyeliner came off right away while the Rimmel one did NOT budge! I was very impressed! Drugstore for the win!

VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind – Sparkling Lipgloss in Pink Sequin (Full size $21)

This lipgloss is a pretty light pink gloss with a slight sparkle. I don’t see myself wearing this everyday but it is gorgeous in the center of your lips for a highlight. I was thrown off by the brush but the bristles are actually quite stiff which is good because it makes for easy application. While I would probably not repurchase this, I think I will enjoy it for special occasions.

Perfectly Posh – BFF Best Face Forever Exfoliating Daily Face Wash (Full size $21)

I have heard so many great things about this face wash but unfortunately, the exfoliating beads were too harsh on my sensitive skin. There is no way I could use this daily but I’m sure it would be amazing if you aren’t super sensitive like me. It made your face feel fresh and left a slight minty tingle which I enjoyed. I still haven’t found an affordable face wash/cleanser so if anyone has any good suggestions for sensitive skin I’d love to know in the comments!

Check out Perfectly Posh here

Total price I paid for the bag: $10

Total value of the bag: ~$98 (using the full size product estimations)

I cannot be happier with the value of my bag this month! I will use all of the products and I will definitely be reusing this bag! (They work great for traveling!) If you want to sign up for a monthly subscription with Ipsy, please use my referral link here and we both get points toward an extra product in our bags 🙂

Looxi Beauty Makeup Review

I am so excited to share this independent makeup brand with you! Looxi beauty was founded by a makeup enthusiast named Jessica. She makes and presses these shadows and highlighters herself and everything is cruelty free! All products have a slight sweet cupcake smell to them which I find very nice. If you want to see any of these products on my face, I have many pictures up on my Instagram (@learningtoloveleah) of me using them! I have purchased 5 duochrome (aurora) eyeshadow and 5 highlights to review!

eyeshadow with names

Eyeshadow swatches (above)

highlight swatches with names

 Highlighter swatches (above)

I LOVE these highlighters! They are long wearing and give such a nice glow to the face. A wide variety of colors are available – from wearable gold shimmer to blue and green. Jessica does a FABULOUS job of making sure there is good selection for ALL skin colors 🙂 They are $15 in a compact or $7.50 if you buy them in the pan which you can then pop in a Z-palette.

Bombshell – Described as a reflective, light champagne gold. This color is specifically good for lighter skin colors because it does not show up too harshly. Check the website for other colors that work well for medium to dark skin tones!

Luna – Described as light blue. LOVE this one in the winter – makes you feel like Queen Elsa!

Aurora (Duochrome) Highlighters

I personally do not see much shifting color when I wear these but that does not stop me from wearing them! The formula on these are top notch!

Pandora – Described as a pink to silver to lilac shifting highlighter

IMG_0154 IMG_0155

Tragic – Described as a pearlescent beige highlighter with a pink shift

IMG_0150 IMG_0151

Wicked – Described as an icy blue highlighter with an intense violet shift. If you have Luna, you probably do not also need Wicked unless you are blue highlighter junkie!

Aurora (Duochrome) Eyeshadows

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the eyeshadows as much as the highlighters. They looks gorgeous in the pan and swatch nicely but once on the lid you have to be very careful not to blend them away because they are so soft. I did not see much shift once on the eye either except with Duperstar which is the absolute must-have out of the entire collection that I received. These are $5 each.

Bohemian – Described as a shifting shadow of pink and silver. It looks gold/copper to me once it was on my eyelids.

Genesis – Described as a shifting shadow of purple, blue, silver and green. This color looks light gray on my eyelids.

Duperstar – Described as a shifting shadow of purple, pink and blue. This color is PHENOMENAL! This was the one eyeshadow that I truly saw duochrome once on the eye. There is a light purple undertone with light blue sparkle on top. This shadow lasted about 8 hours on my eyelids (with elf’s eyeshadow primer underneath) until it began to crease. Of all the eyeshadows THIS is the one that I would definitely recommend that you NEED in your collection!

Disturbia – Described as a shifting shadow from purple, gray, and pink. This color honestly looks very blue to me in person. I was surprised it was not described as blue at all on the website.

Omega – Described as a shifting shadow of green, purple and dark blue. This one has a very obvious duochrome shift in the pan and in the swatch but once it is on the eyes I was very disappointed. It looks dark gray and blends out to almost nothing. I have tried it with primer dry and wet and still got the same results 🙁

Overall, I definitely recommend the highlighters and of course, Duperstar. I have heard good things about her regular eyeshadow collection so I will probably be purchasing some of those in the future and do an updated review.
